Cardiff continues to lead the way with RevPAR increases during the first week of the Rugby World Cup 2015.

Match days provided extraordinary RevPAR performance during the opening week of the tournament, with increases between 23.4% (Brighton, Saturday 19 September) and 194.6% (Cardiff, Sunday 20 September). Hotels in Cardiff and in the Twickenham and Wembley areas witnessed the strongest RevPAR increases.

  • Cardiff: After a strong opening weekend, hotels experienced a stellar 186.4% increase in RevPAR to £146.57 on Wednesday, 23 September when Australia beat Fiji (28-13). Hotels in the city also witnessed double-digit growth in occupancy (+12.4% to 98.5%) and ADR (+154.9%). 

  • Twickenham: Following an outstanding performance during the opening ceremony, hotels within 5 kilometres from Twickenham Stadium experienced a strong increase in RevPAR (+93.3% to £141.62) on Saturday, 26 September when Wales defeated England (28-25).

  • Wembley: Hotels within a 5-kilometre radius from Wembley Stadium witnessed a strong RevPAR increase (+87.0% to £71.01) on Sunday, 20 September, when Argentina was beaten by New Zealand (16-26). The performance was driven by a 58.8% increase in ADR as well as a 17.7% rise in occupancy to 75.2%.

  • Gloucester:  Hotels in Gloucester on average witnessed a 55.8% increase in RevPAR on Wednesday, 23 September and Friday, 25 September. The 16,500-person capacity Kingsholm Stadium hosted the Scotland-Japan (45-10) and Argentina-Georgia (54-9) matches on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. Hotel occupancy on Friday, 23 September was high at 97.1%.  

  • Olympic Park: Out of the three London locations hosting Rugby World Cup 2015 matches, hotels located in Stratford, Ilford and Barking experienced the lowest increases in RevPAR thus far. RevPAR still experienced double-digit growth by 26.5% to £108.95 and by 35.3% to £102.80 on Wednesday, 23 September and Thursday, 24 September, respectively. We note that the growth was driven by ADR, while occupancy remained stable.
