STR, a global data benchmarking and analytics specialist, has partnered with the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), a national hotel association that represents the industry with more than a thousand members throughout the country. As part of the landmark agreement, STR’s hotel data platform will be extended to MAH member hotels.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity for STR and MAH to collaborate in hotel data collection and reporting,” said Bernard Kee, STR’s regional manager for Southeast Asia. “Market trend transparency is crucial for any business, and through our efforts with the MAH, STR will be able to supercharge the relationship with Malaysia’s hoteliers on the value of benchmarking and how data-driven solutions can help them strategize in a competitive marketplace.”
“MAH is pleased to collaborate with a renowned independent company such as STR as we work to grow the performance of our country’s hotel sector,” said Sam Cheah Swee Hee, MAH president. “This partnership will encourage and train our members to utilize STR’s platform and reports in developing more-informed business decisions for the member hotels and formulate more inclusive hospitality strategies for the nation.”
STR’s data sample in the hotel industry comprises more than 62,000 hotels and 8.3 million hotel rooms around the world. Through the first eight months of 2018, Malaysia saw declines in occupancy (-0.2% to 66.4%) and average daily rate (-1.3% to MYR359.09), resulting in a drop in revenue per available room (-1.5% to MYR238.42).
