The summer is in full swing with U.S. hotel occupancy rising to 70.6% for the week ending 11 June 2022, which was the highest level of the year and the third highest since the start of the pandemic.

U.S. hotel performance strengthened further with occupancy for the week ending 18 June 2022 at a pandemic-era high of 71.8%, which was up 1.2 percentage points from the prior week and 4.1 percentage points versus the matching week last year.

In May, U.S. hotel room rates grew 27%, which was the 14th consecutive month that ADR grew over 25% year over year. Compared to 2019, room rates were 13% higher. This and more in Jan Freitag’s latest video update.

Average daily rate (ADR) continues to drive top-line performance recovery around the U.S. As shown in this latest “bubble chart” update, however, the Top 25 Markets are showing a more blended recovery with markets like New York City gaining occupancy momentum.

U.S. hotel occupancy reached yet another pandemic-era high as the week ending 25 June 2022 hit 72.3%–the highest level since the week ending 10 August 2019.

A three-day calendar shift influenced U.S. hotel performance trends, leaving the top-line metrics slightly weaker than the previous month. But an extra weekday on the calendar contributed to higher group demand, which reached a pandemic-era high in May.
