Certification in Advanced Hospitality and Tourism Industry Analytics (CAHTA)
The Certification in Advanced Hospitality and Tourism Analytics is being offered by STR with multiple industry endorsements, including the Institute of Hospitality and the Pacific Asia Tourism Association. The CAHTA is a natural progression beyond the popular CHIA with a focus on experiential learning and industry relevance. The CAHTA is a comprehensive training program on popular hotel and tourism research. Participants demonstrate step-by-step analytical skills, observe a range of case scenarios and then apply what they have learned to complete their own comprehensive research project. The training can be personalized related to a geographic area, type of research or related to the needs of a school or class.
The CAHTA certification program includes five modules:
- Hospitality and Tourism Research
- How to Conduct a Market Study – Analysis of hotel performance for a city
- How to Conduct an Impact Analysis – Hotel performance related to an event
- How to Conduct an Economic Analysis – Hotel data correlated to economic data for a country
- How to Conduct a Feasibility Study – Making the decision to build or not build a hotel, utilizing a feasibility study template
The CAHTA certification is US$150. Financial need-based scholarships are available. A discounted rate is also available for emerging nations. The exam is 50 questions – multiple-choice, with a 90-minute time limit. A minimum score of 70% is needed to pass the exam.
Professors that would like to offer the CAHTA certificate training to students at their school can attend an in-person or virtual train-the-trainer workshop to learn the material and discuss how the training can be integrated into their program. Comprehensive training materials are available including PowerPoints, quiz questions, detailed projects and supporting data. Upon completing the training, an instructor may also take the exam at no cost. Once they have offered the training and exam to their students and completed one of the four projects, they will receive their CAHTA Authorized Instructor certificate.
